Report from the 15th Symposium on Software Performance

The 15th Symposium on Software Performance (SSP ’24) was held from November 5 to 7, 2024 in Linz, Austria. It was the first edition of the SSP series that took place outside Germany.

Every year, the SSP brings together researchers and practitioners interested in software performance and related quality attributes. The scope of SSP spans measurement, modeling, benchmark design, and run-time management.

SSP 2024 had a great program that included two keynotes from Dynatrace and 30 technical presentations. The presentations are accompanied by extended abstracts and short papers to appear in the GI Softwaretechnik-Trends. In addition to the technical program, SSP 2024 included tours of Johannes Kepler University Linz and the Dynatrace main office, which allowed ample room for informal discussions. We had more than 50 participants from academia and industry.

From a Kieker perspective, we announced the Kieker Observability Framework, a significant move into the observability of cloud-native applications. We held a Kieker developer meeting at the LIT Open Innovation Center of Johannes Kepler University Linz.

SSP 2024 was a great event with an excellent and thorough organization by our colleagues from Dynatrace/Johannes Kepler University Linz, led by Sören Henning and Mario Kahlhofer, and Adriano Vogel. They were already familiar with SSP, publishing a paper together at SSP 2023 in Karlsruhe.

The SSP series is organized by the research groups around Kieker, Descartes, and Palladio, which are located at the universities of Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Kiel, Stuttgart, Würzburg, and Leipzig. SSP 2025 will be held in Kiel, Germany.
